YSL Loveshine Lip Oil Sticks

YSL Beauty revamped their cult classic Rouge Volupte Shine in a new formula called Loveshine Oil Lipsticks ($45 each). They seem to have kept much the same with the formula. They’ve been revamped with new packaging and new ingredients, including fig pulp for sensitive lips.

I picked up quite a few of the shades as I loved the original and was very curious about these new ones. Their marketing and rebranding is genius! Most of the shades look like new, but they retain a few of the originals, including 44 Nude Lavalliere and 150 Nude Lingerie.

Loveshine’s formula is quite sheer with a glossy, balm-like finish. The lasting power of the colors won’t really be long unless you layer on top of a long-lasting lip liner, but the hydration seems to linger for soft, supple lips.

Overall, these new Loveshine lipsticks perform similarly to the Rouge Volupte Shine for me. The pigment of the newer formula seems to be more sheer than the originals, with many of the lighter neutrals pulling very similarly on my lips. I found that I really liked the darker and brighter shades that I had ordered, and if I had it to do over again, I would go for all the brighter colors instead.

I wasn’t able to edit the photos and post the lips here due to time, but I wanted to get swatches and a review before the Sephora sale ended for those who asked. I’ve posted a test reel here, which I’ll link to below as well.

What I’m wearing:

On the shades I picked:

  • 201 Rosewood Blush is a sheer rosy pink (looks warmer in the tube but cool on my lips)
  • 202 Peachy Glow is a taupe rose (also pulls cool on my lips)
  • 203 Blushed Mallow is a cool mauve
  • 204 Melted Honey is a sheer pale beige
  • 205 Nude Self is a berry rose
  • 207 Scenic Brown is a strawberry brown shade
  • 209 Pink Desire is quite a warm brighter pink
  • 44 Nude Lavalliere is a pale pink with cool undertones
  • 150 Nude Lingerie is a warm peach pink

Quick note, my hand is extremely light right now, making everything look warmer than it does on my face. I’ve had some interesting conversations with some of you about skin tone and complexions – and some of you are my winter tan vs. summer tan twins. A lot of colors (including foundation) are downright orange to me now. With most of my foundations I have to do a bit of blending with elf Halo Glow Filter or Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filters in lighter shades. I also have to do a LOT of blending on my neck area. I haven’t been this light in complexion since I left San Diego, but since I tan easily, I suspect I’ll be back to my most year-round color very soon.

The feedback from some of you on these new Loveshines has been mixed. There are many of you out there who are TOTALLY obsessed with this pure seamless slide in and out like vibe. I love it too, but part of me wishes the pigment was maybe 10% to 15% more intense. I think the undertones and colors are SO beautiful, but I wish they looked better on my lips. Also, there are a few of you who messaged me saying you bought some and returned them because they were so clean you couldn’t see them.

I like what I picked up, although I may have missed a few of the shades due to similarities in my selections. I can think of an occasion to wear all the shades I picked up. I would say my top three: 209 Pink Desire, 150 Nude Lingerie and 205 Nude Self.
