- 1 1/2 bowl white wheat flour or additional all-purpose flour or regular whole-wheat flour*
- 1 1/2 bowl All-purpose flour*
- 1 tablespoon baking powder*
- 1 teaspoon Kosher salt*
- 1 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder unnecessary
- 1 Bottle beer (12 ounces) Any way you like! Amber or IPA is my favorite.
- 3 tablespoon honey
- Optional ingredients: 2/3 cup shredded cheddar cheese Diced jalapenos, chopped fresh herbs (see blog post above for more ideas)
- 2 tablespoon unsalted butter melt
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Coat a 9×5-inch loaf pan with nonstick spray.
- In a large mixing bowl Mix in whole wheat flour. Combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder (if using).
- Slowly pour in the beer, then add the honey. Use a rubber spatula to gently stir. until the bubble disappears And you won’t see any dry bits of flour anymore. The dough will be very stiff. Gradually mix in the desired ingredients. Don’t mix too much. As soon as the powder disappears you’re good to go.
- Spread the dough into an even layer. Set aside in the prepared baking tray. Then sprinkle melted butter on top. Then apply it all over the dough. Bake for 38 to 42 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the center of the bread comes out clean. (I like to use an instant read thermometer. When the bread reaches 200°F in the center, it’s done.)
- Place the pan on a wire rack and let cool for 10 minutes. Carefully remove from the pan. Let cool completely or use a serrated knife. Cut into pieces and eat immediately.
- *You can substitute flour, baking powder, and salt for 3 cups of self-rising flour.
