The best chickpea recipe

Chickpeas, also known as garbanzo beans, are one of my favorite plant-based protein sources. You will always find a can or two in my cupboard! They are cheap and require little preparation. and is a good source of protein

I think most of us probably think of “hummus” and “falafel” when we think of chickpea recipes. And both dishes were amazing! – but there are many other options.

Chickpeas are a small but powerful ingredient, one that can elevate a dish from nothing to yes. And if you use canned chickpeas It was almost impossible to prepare anything. You can drain, rinse, and add to salads and other dishes!

What do chickpeas taste like?

One reason chickpeas are such a versatile ingredient is that they have a very mild flavor. Much lighter than other beans, they have a slightly earthy flavor. But its flavor generally comes from the seasonings and other ingredients you cook it with.

How to use canned chickpeas:

  • Hummus: Mix chickpeas with tahini, lemon juice, garlic, and olive oil to create a smooth, creamy texture that’s perfect for dipping or spreading (see below).
  • salad: Add chickpeas to salads like kale salad, cucumber salad, etc. to add protein and fiber. It goes well with a variety of vegetables and salad dressings. (See ideas below)
  • Chickpea Soup and Stew: Stir chickpeas into soups and stews to add texture and nutrients. This is especially true in Mediterranean, Indian, and Middle Eastern recipes.
  • Roasted Chickpeas: Toss the chickpeas with olive oil, salt, and your favorite spices. Then grill or air fry until crispy for a healthy, crunchy snack. (See recipe below)
  • Chickpea Curry: Use chickpeas as the main protein in this delicious curry, simmered with vegetables, coconut milk, and a mix of fresh herbs and spices.
  • Falafel: Mash chickpeas with herbs, onions and spices. Then form into balls or patties and fry or bake. (See my air fryer recipe below.) Serve with tahini sauce.
  • pasta: Add it to pasta or noodles to add more protein and fiber.
  • Cereal bowl: Add it to quinoa, couscous, and brown rice along with vegetables or sweet potatoes to make a delicious grain bowl.
  • Vegetable Burger: Grind chickpeas and mix with grains, vegetables, and spices to create a filling for this vegetarian burger option.
  • Chickpea Salad Sandwich: Crush chickpeas and mix with mayonnaise or vegetarian mayonnaise, celery, onions, and spices to make a sandwich spread.
  • Baking: Use chickpea flour or aquafaba. (Liquid from canned chickpeas) is an alternative to gluten-free flour or an egg substitute in baking.
